There’s just something about fresh tennis balls—the smell, the color, the texture.

The look for this shoot was inspired by an Instagram post from Hoodzpah on August 12, 2022. The post featured a photograph of people modeling pickleball paddles from Nettie. I really loved the amount of pop and vibrancy in the image, so I decided to try a similar approach myself with a new canister of tennis balls I had readily available.

I kept things simple by using an outdoor basketball court for the setting, along with a racket and additional tennis balls for staging and foreground elements. Like the inspiration, I leaned heavily into the punchiness of the sunlight, embracing the shadows and bold colors of each element.
Aside from final color correction, cropping, and alignment in Photoshop, I specifically cleaned up the background in one shot where the court felt too busy behind the product. The lines in the background were also giving away that this was not actually a tennis court, so the setting needed to feel believable. Furthermore, the racket I had available was pink and black. So to better match the product’s color palette, I used Photoshop to adjust the pink to red.

In the end, the images show how much creativity is possible with just a few simple ingredients. The color and light pop in a way that feels lively and satisfying. The product looks pristine, like it just came off the production line, and the light brings out the texture of both the plastic canister and the tennis balls—keeping the product true to itself and its brand.
